Tibbee Creek Watershed Conservation
Security Program (CSP)
Description
The Tibbee Creek Watershed (HUC 03160104) has been chosen
as a CSP priority watershed for 2006. The Tibbee Creek Watershed covers
approximately 714,195 acres in Northeast Mississippi. Eighty five percent of
the Tibbee Creek Watershed is in Chickasaw, Clay and Oktibbeha counties.
The watershed area encompasses portions of seven counties
in Mississippi: Chickasaw, Clay, Lowndes, Monroe, Oktibbeha, Pontotoc, and
Webster.
The watershed includes 847 miles of major rivers and
streams and 440 miles of 303d (DEQ Water Quality Limited) streams. Resource
areas include the Southern Hilly Coastal Plain, Burrstone/Lime Hills, Blackland
Prairie and Flatwoods/Blackland Prairie Margins.
Major land uses include forest, grass seed pastures, hayland and cropland. There are an estimated 1,331 farms in the watershed and
an estimated 273,760 acres in farms (minus CRP).
