Dr. Homer L Wilkes,  state conservationist provides overall leadership for the activities in Mississippi for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to help people conserve, maintain, and improve our natural resources and environment. 

NRCS Mississippi employees serve all 82 counties across the state. Staffs are made up of district conservationists, soil conservationists, soil conservationist technicians, soil scientists, engineers, biologists, foresters, and other specialists. These employees work hand-in-hand with land users to conserve natural resources on private lands.
