Apply for New Wildlife Initiative by April 30 for First Ranking Period

Jackson, MS, April 24, 2012 - Producers and landowners wanting to improve habitat for gopher tortoises should apply by April 30th.  This is the deadline for the first ranking period of the Working Lands for Wildlife Initiative (WLFW).  WLFW is a new initiative offered by USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Services.  This new initiative encourage landowners to voluntarily create, restore or enhance gopher tortoise habitat, and increase habitat connectivity which can contribute to the recovery of the tortoise throughout its entire range.

New National Water Quality Initiative Targets Three Watersheds in Mississippi

Jackson, May 7, 2012 - Acting State Conservationist, Al Garner, announced the launch of a new National Water Quality Initiative committed to improving three impaired waterways in Mississippi.  USDA-NRCS will manage the initiative by making funds available to farmers, ranchers and forest landowners in the selected watersheds.

Deadline April 15 for Landowners Wanting to Sign Up for WHIP through CCPI

Jackson, MS, March. 9, 2012- Al Garner, Acting State Conservationist, has announced the WHIP Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative (CCPI) signup.  Administered by the Natural Resources Conservation Service( NRCS), the Mississippi Cooperative Conservation Parnership Initiative (CCPI) is a voluntary initiative.

Deadline March 30 for Landowners Wanting Assistance in Planting Longleaf

Jackson, Miss., March 8, 2012 - Mississippi Landowners wanting to create or restore longleaf pine stands can apply for cost-share assistance with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).  The deadline to apply for Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program (WHIP) funds is March 30.
